    J. Llewellyn Meredith, Jr., passed away after a long and suffering illness. He was among the best known men of this county and borough, having served for six years as a member of the State legislature from this district and also as a member of the Borough Council. He was of an old Chester County family, and a man of kindly disposition, generous to those in need and ready to do a kindly turn at any time. For many years he was in the hardware business, on Gay Street, but had been retired from active duties for some time. Mr. Meredith was born and passed all his life in West Chester. He was the son of the late J. Llewellyn and Elina Hubbard Meredith, and was born May 22, 1872. he attended the public schools here and had always been actively interested in the affairs of the community. He married Lillian, daughter of Isaac Baily, of West Chester, who survives him. He is also survived by four children, Graydon, Mildred (wife of Wayne L. Battin, Jr.), Marwood and Lewis, all of West Chester. There are two grandchildren, Wayne L. Battin, 3rd, and J. Llewellyn Meredith, 3rd. Mr. Meredith was a member of the Masonic Order. The family has been connected with the Society of Friends for many generations, being descended from the early Welsh Quaker settlers, who received their grand of land from William Penn.
