Of the Middling Interest. In the City of Boston
"An Exposition of the Principles and Views of the Middling Interest. In the City of Boston," author unknown, published in May 1822, 5" x 8.5", 8 pages. Probably trimmed. I don't know if this originally had covers.
The Middling Interest was a short-lived third party (here called an association) of businessmen and craftsmen that arose in Boston in opposition and ran Josiah Quincy as a candidate for mayor against Harrison G. Otis. The party took eight seats in the General Court and also unsuccessfully ran several candidates for the state senate, including Henry Dearborn, Thomas L. Winthrop, George Sullivan, Benjamin Whitman, and Samuel A. Wells.
The tract makes mention of the party's opposition to a law restricting the construction of buildings over ten feet tall, references the Boston Tea Party, and quotes George Washington.
The spine has been repaired/reinforced/replaced with white tape. The booklet otherwise is in near fine condition.
